The plan with the lowest monthly premium isn’t always the one that saves you the most money.

A plan might look great on paper, but once you add in your doctors, prescriptions, and what you’ll actually pay out of pocket, the numbers can shift fast.

That’s why open enrollment is about more than just comparing monthly premiums.

See five things to look at before choosing your coverage for the year ahead: https://waymakerwa.com/insights/blog/5-tips-for-getting-the-right-medicare-coverage-this-open-enrollment-season/

A retirement budget can look solid on paper and still miss what your lifestyle actually costs.

More time at home can mean higher utilities. More free time can turn into more dinners out, projects, or trips. Those little extras can add up faster than expected.

Instead of starting with what you think you’ll spend, it may help to look at what your current lifestyle is really costing you.

Oil may be getting most of the attention, but the inflation story is broader than energy.

Prices are still rising across everyday services, while manufacturers are also dealing with higher costs for things like electronics, steel, and semiconductors.

That broader pressure is one reason Carson’s Investment Research team is taking another look at what the Fed may do next.

See what’s changing in the inflation picture and why it could matter for rates: https://waymakerwa.com/insights/blog/market-commentary-stocks-wobble-as-the-fed-gets-ready-to-act/

Roth IRA or traditional IRA?

It sounds like a simple choice, but current contribution limits and factors like your age can affect where you’re eligible to contribute.

This calculator can show, down to the dollar, which combination of Roth, tax-deductible traditional, and nondeductible traditional IRA contributions your household may be allowed to make.

Retirement can last for decades, and chances are, you won’t spend every year the same way.

At first, you might find yourself traveling more, trying new things, or spending on experiences you’ve always wanted. Later, life might slow down a bit. Healthcare and support may start to play a bigger role, too.

That’s why it’s helpful to think about how your life and your spending could change over time instead of planning around just one version of retirement.

Take a look at what each phase could mean for the retirement you’re working toward: https://waymakerwa.com/insights/blog/getting-ready-to-retire-how-to-be-fully-prepared/

It’s hard not to notice that $1,000 federal contribution right away.

But there’s a lot more to Trump Accounts than just that first deposit. Parents, grandparents, and even employers can pitch in over time, but most of those contributions have to stay under the same annual limit.

And when the child turns 18, the account changes again.

If your family is thinking about opening one, here’s what to know about how it works now and what changes later on: https://waymakerwa.com/insights/blog/trump-accounts-what-you-need-to-know-about-eligibility-contributions-and-long-term-planning/

The Fed’s next move will get plenty of attention.

But if rates start moving higher again, the bigger story may be what happens after that first increase.

In four of the last five hiking cycles, the S&P 500 was higher a year after the first hike. The exception was the aggressive 2022–23 cycle, when rates climbed from 0.25% to 5.5%.

See why the pace of future rate hikes may matter just as much as the first move: https://waymakerwa.com/insights/blog/market-commentary-a-hot-economy-meets-a-reluctant-fed/
