The tax code includes incentives that reward business growth, investment, and job creation. Understanding how these rules apply to your business can help you reduce your tax burden legally and keep more of what you earn.

Learn the rules. Plan ahead. Build smarter.

Most business owners focus on increasing revenue, but they rarely focus on improving what they keep.

The right tax strategy can help you reduce unnecessary taxes, improve cash flow, and make your income work harder for you.

Growing your business is important. Keeping more of what you've earned is just as important.

Most business owners assume their accountant is helping them pay less in taxes.
In reality, accounting and tax strategy serve two different purposes.

Accounting tracks what already happened. Tax strategy focuses on what you can do before the year ends to legally reduce what you owe.

The right strategy can create opportunities most business owners never realize they have.

If tax planning isn't part of the conversation, it may be time to add someone to your team whose job is to make it one.

If you're waiting until tax season to start thinking about taxes, you're already behind.

The biggest tax-saving opportunities happen before income is earned, not after. Your entity structure, investments, and ownership decisions can all impact how much you owe, but only if they're made in advance.

The earlier you plan, the more options you have.

Most people see the tax code as a list of rules.
In reality, it's a system designed to encourage certain business decisions through deductions, credits, and incentives.

The business owners who keep more of what they earn aren't bending the rules. They're using the tax code the way it was intended.

If you're only thinking about taxes at filing time, you're missing opportunities that happen throughout the year.

Most business owners aren't overpaying because they don't work hard enough.
They're overpaying because they don't know what the tax code actually allows.

The tax code contains deductions for ordinary and necessary business expenses, but those deductions only help if you know how to identify, document, and apply them correctly.

A proactive tax strategy can make the difference between paying more than you need to and keeping more of what you earn.

Generating wealth is only half the equation. Keeping it requires a strategy.

The businesses that build lasting wealth don't just focus on increasing income. They structure their finances in a way that protects what they've earned and minimizes unnecessary taxes.

Growing your net worth is important. Building a tax strategy that helps you keep more of it is what creates long-term wealth.

Paying your own children could lower your tax bill, if it's done correctly.

Business owners can hire their children to perform legitimate work in the business.

Their wages are generally deductible, and for sole proprietorships and certain partnerships, wages paid to children under 18 are exempt from F**A taxes.

The key is that the work must be real, appropriate for their age, and the compensation must be reasonable for the role.

It doesn't apply to S-Corps or C-Corps, the F**A exemption disappears there.

Dear Everyone within the J Smith & Co. family,

Unfortunately, our community continues to face the devastating wildfires impacting the Spokane area.

Our hearts are with everyone who has been affected especially those who have lost their homes, have been displaced, or are currently under evacuation orders. We are praying for the safety of our community, the first responders working tirelessly to protect it, and every family navigating these incredibly difficult circumstances.

We also wanted to let you know that some of the homes of our team and our office are currently in a Level 3 evacuation zone. While we are safe at this time, we are monitoring the situation closely and doing our best to continue serving our clients during this uncertainty.

Because of this, our response times may be a little slower than usual over the coming days. We sincerely appreciate your patience and grace as we balance caring for our family while continuing to support our clients as best we can.

Thank you for your understanding, your kindness, and for being part of our community. We are hopeful for safer days ahead and are grateful for the support we’ve already received.

Please stay safe, and if you or your family have been directly affected by the fires, know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

With gratitude,

Jared and the J Smith Co. Team

Filing taxes and planning for taxes are two very different things.

A CPA reports what already happened. A tax strategist helps shape what happens before the year is over.

If you're only thinking about taxes when it's time to file, you've already missed many of your biggest opportunities to reduce what you owe.

The best tax savings come from planning ahead, not looking back.
