IR-2023-123, July 3, 2023 — The Internal Revenue Service warned taxpayers today to be on the lookout for a new scam mailing that tries to mislead people into believing they are owed a refund.

Bookkeeping &Tax Services' first office will open January 19, 2018 at 10 am. I am moving in next weekend. The office will be open 10 am to 7 pm Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Appointments recommended. I have been keeping this under wraps for a bit, but I'm ready to let it out now.

Bookkeeping and Tax Services will be opening a tax office at the International Marketplace in the Greenspoint area of Houston in January. I am excited to get on with this new step in my business. I am working on a lot of things right now and this is just one.

The office will be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for your convenience. The International Marketplace is only open on those days, so don't blame me. If you have questions, or need services before January or on Monday - Thursday during tax season, please feel free to call me at the phone number on the contact information.

More on Scams ...
I was recently contacted by a scammer who claimed to be from the Publishers Clearing House. Let me tell you now. If it seems too good to be true, it usually is. This was a good scam. Only my training and naturally suspicious nature kept me from believing it. The scammers claim to be a Prize Consultant or Prize Coordinator. They will give a badge number and a code that you are supposed to use when the "Prize Patrol" gets there. They offer a $1.5M prize and a Mercedes C-Class car and a Monthly payout of $7000 per month for life. It was really funny. I let him talk. Then they said the fatal part (for them anyway). They said that the IRS had authorized them to give this out tax-free. (It was difficult not to laugh out loud at this point of the conversation.)
They then connected me with someone who stated that he was with the IRS. I asked him to spell his name and then asked for his IRS badge number. He refused to give it to me. I stated that I know that if I ask for it, the IRS requires that he give it and he hung up.

Please everyone. Be careful. The scams are getting more conniving. They are involving companies that are totally innocent of the procedures. I personally called PCH to tell them about this scam and gave them a report. You can get information on these scams from PCH at info.PCH.com. I wish these idiots would just stop but there is always someone in the world who wants to make money quick. It was obvious to me that the people on the phone knew that what they were doing was illegal. The one guy hung up on me when I told him I was aware of IRS regulations requiring him to give me a badge number. So everyone out there, be careful.

Just a reminder to everyone ... do not fall for the scams out there. There are many of them. The fake IRS calls are now telling you that they can revoke your Bachelor's Degree (or Master's Degree). The scammers will also now call the local police to do a drive by wellness check at your house and tell you to look out your window. Please do not fall for this. The scammers are getting more sophisticated. If you have any questions, please send me a message or call me. I CAN help.

For anyone who is looking to donate to animal charities, I can tell I personally know this organization. They do low cost pet exams, vaccinations, and spay/neuter programs. I got one of my cats spayed there, and have had all of my cats chipped there. Please donate! They lost everything in the floods from Hurricane Harvey!
