Taking a little birthday break! 🥳

Heading to Portland tomorrow for an early birthday show, and I’m SO excited! A little time away from the computer, some fun, and a much-needed weekend out!

I’ll be back later Saturday, but I’ll be soaking up every minute of my time away until then!

Emails and messages can wait until I’m back. 💚

I’m a bookkeeper, but I’m also a little woo woo when it comes to money and business. 😂

I believe the way you talk about money matters. If you’re constantly telling yourself you’re bad with money, you’re probably not doing yourself any favors.

I believe in setting specific goals, not just saying you want to make more money, but actually putting a number on it.

I believe in celebrating the wins, even the small ones. Because sometimes we get so caught up in what’s next that we forget how far we’ve already come.

And I DEFINITELY believe in protecting your peace. Not every client is a good client, and not every dollar is worth the headache. 😂

Now, am I still going to tell you to look at your numbers, keep your books updated, and make smart financial decisions? Absolutely.

But I also think there’s something to believing in what you’re building and being intentional about where you want to go.

A little manifestation and a whole lot of knowing your numbers never hurt anybody. 😉

Tell me I’m not the only one who believes in a little woo woo AND a good spreadsheet. 😂

One of my favorite things about being my own boss? I get to make the rules. 😂

PTO request? Approved. ✅
Client not a good fit? No thank you.
Want to do things a little differently? I can.

Now, does that mean owning a business is always easy? Absolutely not. 😂

Some days I’m wearing 15 different hats, working way too many hours, and wondering who thought putting me in charge was a good idea. (Oh wait, that was me. 🤦🏻‍♀️)

But I love getting to decide who I work with, how I run my business, and what works best for me and my clients.

And being able to say no to things that aren’t a good fit? That’s a perk I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of.

It’s not all freedom and flexible schedules, but I wouldn’t trade it.

Business owners, what’s your favorite perk of being your own boss? 👇

Double, double, toil & trouble… but make it bookkeeping. 🧙‍♀️

Duplicate transactions might seem like a small mistake, but they can cause some pretty big headaches when it comes to your financial reports.

We’re talking inflated expenses, overstated income, inaccurate account balances, and numbers that don’t actually reflect what’s happening in your business.

And the tricky part? They’re not always obvious.

Just because two transactions look the same doesn’t mean they’re duplicates. That’s why taking the time to investigate before hitting delete is so important!

This is also why I preach regular reconciliations. Catching these things early is a whole lot easier than untangling months (or years 😅) of messy books.

Your financial reports are only as accurate as the information going into them.

Save this for your next bookkeeping check-in, and send it to a fellow business owner who manages their own books!

October is here, and so are some important tax deadlines! 🍂

If you filed an extension earlier this year, October 15th is right around the corner!

Whether you’re a small business owner filing a Schedule C with your personal return or a C corporation that requested an extension, this is your reminder to make sure everything is wrapped up.

And remember, an extension gives you more time to file, not more time to pay!

Save this post, share it with another business owner, and don’t let these deadlines sneak up on you!

Forget haunted houses. Some of the things I hear from business owners are scary enough. 👻

And while I might laugh a little (and cry internally), these are the kinds of things that can turn into some pretty expensive problems.

Mixing personal and business finances, skipping reconciliations, misclassifying employees, and not understanding how to properly pay yourself can all come back to haunt you.

The good news? Most of these mistakes are completely avoidable.

I’m not here to judge how you’ve been running your business. Most business owners aren’t accountants, and I don’t expect them to be. That’s literally why people like me exist.

I’d much rather help you fix something now than watch you deal with a financial nightmare later.

So tell me, what’s the scariest business advice you’ve ever been given? 🎃

Not every coffee run is a business write-off just because you answered emails while drinking it ☕️😂

If you’re meeting with a client, vendor, employee, or other business contact for a legitimate business purpose, that coffee may qualify as a business meal expense. Traveling away from your tax home for business can also change the rules.

But grabbing your usual latte so you can sit down and work? Generally personal. And yes, this includes my own coffee addiction too. 😂

The biggest thing: business purpose matters. Keep the receipt, document who you met with + why, and don’t assume swiping the business card automatically makes something deductible.

Save this for your next coffee run ☕️

Before a business owner hires me, they should probably know a few things 😂

I hate eggplants and mushrooms, I foster dogs when I can, and yes—I’m a bookkeeper, but I’m not the “cheap and just categorize transactions” kind.

I care about your business beyond tax time. I want you to actually understand your numbers, know where your money is going, and feel confident making decisions with them.

Because bookkeeping shouldn’t just be something you do to keep the IRS happy. It should help you run a better business.

And apparently knowing my food enemies is important too. 😂

September is that weird in-between month where summer is wrapping up, the holidays are suddenly right around the corner, and somehow Q4 is already staring us in the face. 😂

So consider this your little business-owner lock-in list:

✔️ Get those accounts reconciled
✔️ Make sure Q3 taxes are handled
✔️ Follow up on the invoices that have been sitting a little too long
✔️ Actually look at your YTD P&L
✔️ Start thinking ahead about holiday time off

Nothing dramatic. Just a few things now that can make the end of the year feel a whole lot less chaotic.

And yes, I fully support grabbing your favorite local coffee before you sit down to do any of it. ☕️🔒
