Anna and I recently attended an Illinois Women in Business Luncheon where the speaker shared an important message about dementia and how we can do a better job of including individuals living with dementia in our communities.
This topic is especially close to my heart because of my grandma, Mary Claire Haugh. Experiences with the people we love remind us how important it is to lead with compassion, patience, and understanding, and to remember that every person deserves to feel valued, included, and connected.
Financial planning isn't just about building wealth or preparing for retirement. It's also about preparing for life's unexpected challenges and making sure the people we love are protected.
Planning ahead can include:
• Reviewing estate planning documents, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives.
• Organizing financial accounts and important documents so trusted individuals can help when needed.
• Having conversations with loved ones about future wishes and care preferences.
• Creating a plan that protects financial independence, dignity, and peace of mind for as long as possible.
Just as importantly, we can all help make our communities more welcoming by continuing to include, support, and connect with those living with dementia and their families.
Thank you to Illinois Women in Business for hosting such a meaningful conversation!
