If you've got teens doing homework, you've probably had to remind them that ChatGPT isn't a replacement for actually thinking things through. Turns out, that reminder applies to grown-ups too, including us.
Here's an example. Lisa was recently working with a client's CPA to figure out which employer stock shares to sell for the lowest tax bill. She tried using AI to double-check the numbers.
It was completely wrong…not a rounding error, just totally inaccurate.
Maybe someday AI will be better at this stuff than we are, but for now, we're staying skeptical, especially when it comes to decisions involving your money and your taxes.
AI can be useful for brainstorming or a first pass at something, but it's not something to lean on for decisions like this without a second set of (human) eyes.
How do you feel about using AI for things like this? Let us know in the comments.
