With the signing of the new tax law, you may consider paying your 2018 charitable contributions in 2017 in order to take the deduction this year. If you take the standard deduction of $24,000 or $12,000 in 2018, you will not be able to use your charitable contribution deduction. Call us if you have any questions.

As a result of the Affordable Care Act, your tax preparer will need an additional piece of information in order to prepare your 2015 tax return. They will need from their client one of the following three forms depending on where you get your insurance coverage:

1095A-Issued by the marketplace
1095B-Issued by your insurance carrier
1095C-issued by your employer with more than 100 full time insured employees

Watch for these forms in the mail, they should arrive at the latest by the end of January, although some of the forms may be issued as early as December.

Here is an update on bonus depreciation for the 2015 tax year. Under Section 179, you may expense up to $25,000 of the total cost of new and used qualified assets purchased and placed in service in 2015. Section 168k, also referred to as "Bonus Depreciation", allows taxpayers to expense 50% of new equipment in a particular class of assets purchased and placed in service in 2015. The bonus depreciation allowance expires at the end of 2015, however, we expect Congress to extend Section 168k before the end of the year. This is most important for Small Business and hopefully Congress will extend the provision as they did at the end of 2014.
