Medicare planning shouldn't be confusing, so we're here to give it to you straight.

One listener asks, 'Why does my Plan G supplement cost $248/mo. for covering only 20% of costs, while Medicare Plan B costs $203/mo. to cover 80%? "

𝐀̲𝐧̲𝐬̲𝐰̲𝐞̲𝐫̲:
It's a valid question, but there are a few things to consider. First, you've been paying into Medicare your entire working career through taxes; the monthly premium is only a portion of its true cost, as it's subsidized by the government.

Second, supplement premiums are known to increase every year, often between 7-13%. That $248 premium will likely be higher next year. If the cost is a concern, you may want to explore Medicare Advantage plans. Many have a $0 premium, meaning you would only pay for services as you use them, potentially saving you nearly $3,000 a year in premiums.
