A big audience means nothing without the right audience. Strategy, targeting, messaging, and conversion matter far more than vanity metrics. You don’t need 10,000 followers — you need the right 100 paying customers.

Engagement > impressions.

Hico Entrepreneurs Transform Historic Spaces into a Growing Hill Country Destination🌳

What began as a chance meeting in Fort Worth has grown into a nearly 12-year investment in the small town of Hico for Wes Lunsford, originally from Lubbock, and Jennifer Jones, a Round Rock native. Today, the couple is helping reshape how visitors experience the historic Texas community.

After relocating to Hico, Lunsford and Jones focused on enhancing the town’s appeal for travelers passing through the Texas Hill Country. Their efforts have contributed to a shift in Hico’s identity from a quick stop along the highway to a destination where visitors intentionally pause to explore, dine, and stay overnight.

From casual dining options like an Eis sandwich to boutique lodging experiences such as the Upstairs Inn, many of the modern-day visitor experiences associated with Hico trace back to their vision and continued investment in local development.

As their involvement in the community expanded, the couple sought to ensure their ideas were grounded in practical strategy and long-term planning. Referred by another client, they connected with the SBDC, where they received guidance on refining their approach, evaluating opportunities, and developing actionable next steps.

That strategic foundation supported one of their most significant projects to date: the restoration of HiCo Hall. The historic building, originally constructed in the late 1800s as a cottonseed oil mill along the Bosque River, had long awaited revitalization. Its renovation was completed in October 2022, preserving its 125-year legacy while introducing a refined, modern event space.

Today, HiCo Hall serves as a venue for weddings, concerts, and community events, blending historic character with contemporary functionality. The project has become a centerpiece in Hico’s growing reputation as a destination for meaningful gatherings and cultural experiences.

“We didn’t just want to build businesses. We wanted to create reasons for people to stop by Hico, experience it, and connect with it. We want to be part of helping Hico grow into its future,” said Wes Lunsford.
