The IRS urged extra caution for those who received money through the advance child tax credit and the third stimulus payment in 2021.

We're getting lots of questions about the ACTC that was pushed through by our leaders in government in 2021.

Similarly to the way an additional stimulus payment was given to each adult who had claimed a child in their prior year's tax return, the IRS chose to use a prediction method in order to determine whether Americans were to receive the ACTC.

Their criteria was specifically based on the prediction: if you claimed a child in your 2020 year tax return and received the Child Tax Credit, you were more than likely to claim the child AGAIN on your *2021* year tax return.

The IRS included a clause in the legislation that allowed for taxpayers to *"Opt Out"* but the advertisement of this fact was never given much exposure. Without the clear and concise understanding of their ability to Opt Out, the automatic enrollment into this program is showing to cause some negative tax consequences for some Americans who, through various circumstances, will not be able to claim a child on their 2021 year Tax Return....
