Since our founding in 1949, four generations of partners have been privileged to serve the accounting needs of many generations of businesses, non-profit organizations, families and individuals. Bowman & Company became one of the Stockton area's largest accounting firms by never losing sight of founder Herb Bowman's observation: "There's no right way to do the wrong thing." Similarly, we have had four generations of partners at the helm — including, to this (and every) day, Mr. Herb Bowman, who became an attorney as well as a CPA, originally intended to be a high school teacher of Latin, his major at UC Berkeley. When World War II was declared, he and a lifelong friend, Robert Tout, transferred to Harvard as ROTC students. They graduated as second lieutenants and were assigned to the Champagne region of France but did not participate in combat. ("Which is good — I'm sure I made a better CPA than a soldier," Mr. Bowman told a newspaper reporter in 1999.) Throughout the years, Bowman & Company has grown — not only in our number of employees, but also in our capacity and capabilities. Our history has set the tone for everything we have accomplished as a firm. Our future is brighter because we recognize that we are standing on the shoulders of one of Stockton's most respected businessmen.
