Investing 101: "What is" questions...

What is a Stock? A stock (aka equity) is a security that represents the ownership of a fraction of a corporation.

What is a Mutual Fund? A mutual fund is a type of financial vehicle made up of a pool of money collected from many investors to invest in securities like stocks, bonds, money market instruments, and other assets.

What is ETF (Exchange Traded Fund)? An EFT is a type of security that tracks an index, sector, commodity, or other asset, but which can be purchased or sold on a stock exchange the same as a regular stock.

There are four main investment types, or asset classes, that you can choose from, each with distinct characteristics, risks and benefits.

Growth investments – the upside and downside risk may be greater than hedging (aka defensive) type of investments.
Shares, i.e., stocks
Property, i.e., house

Hedging (aka defensive) investments – possibly less risky however inflation risk and interest rate risk
Cash.
Fixed interest - Bonds

Step 1: Take care of your health and wellbeing first. Take that much-needed vacation to recuperate after a long haul at home alone or with family.

I think we can all agree the pandemic was challenging for each of us. Whether that took a toll on our mental health, physical health, or financial health we are forever changed.

Personally, it gave me time to rethink my priorities. My first priority was my own personal mental and physical health. My second priority was to make sure that I help people every day, no matter how insignificant it may seem.
