Hey everyone!
My name is Molly, and although my Bio leaves a lot to be desired, I’m hoping that this will fill in some gaps.
If you’ve seen me in person, you would know that I am generally tall, I wear skinny jeans almost every day of the week, and I like to change my hair color a lot. I also listen to music when I’m working at the office a lot. In this case, I’m a lot like your typical teenager.
However, there is a lot more to me than the weird girl sitting in the back office, sticking out like a sore thumb against all the more professional, older people in the office. As such, I feel like there’s a lot of misconceptions about me that I want to clear up.
I’m not going to college for Accounting like my mother. A lot of people seem to think that because I work for my mom it means that I’m going to take over the company when she retires. As sweet of a sentiment that is, that you think I could possibly take on such responsibility in the future, that’s not the case. I’m going to college with a dual major in English & Psychology. I’m not a math-oriented person like my mother, so I would feel uncomfortable taking on such a technical job. I see myself more filling the role that allows me to pursue my personal passion for poetry, and understanding human behaviors.
I’m not a mom. I know I look the appropriate age for a young mother, but this is also untrue. The baby that you’d see at the office isn’t mine; she’s actually my sister. Leah’s 1st birthday is actually tomorrow July 2nd. But yes, I do love the fact that she’s in my life. In a lot of ways she’s preparing me to be a mom to my own kids I might have in the future, which is a huge blessing. As a kid I had always wanted a sister, and for a long time I was told I wouldn’t have one. At first when Leah came I was sad because I wouldn’t get the opportunity to grow up with her, but I realized that I’m extremely lucky that she gets to be my teacher and mentor in ways she will never fully understand.
I’m going to Estrella Mountain Community College. I’m currently one year away from graduating with my first college degree. After I receive my associates, I will continue at Northern Arizona University for my university-level education. I’m hoping to receive both my Bachelors and Masters with my dual majors, though that might change depending on the curriculum past bachelors is if I keep the English or not.
What do you plan to do when you grow up? This is a loaded question that causes a lot of stress to teenagers, because it’s a lot of pressure to be committed to your future. However, ideally, I would be a freelance writer, who has their own novels published and sold in bookstores. I equally have a craving to help children deal with their trauma at an early age so they can get back to living normal lives as normal kids. This would mean that I would be a children’s clinical psychologist. This is what I would want as a stable career, to support my other dreams.
Why are you working for your mom? I knew that if I worked for my mom that I could learn things about taxes, and learn how to do my own which is a useful life skill. I also know my mom to be a work-aholic so in order to spend time with my mom, I would need to be where she was: at the office. To me, this is the perfect starter job because I get paid for hanging out with my mom, which is a wonderful way of looking at it. I am a firm believer that how you feel about the people you’re working for and with plays a bigger role in how much you like your job, than how much you like the work yourself. For me, I may not always like what I’m doing at work, but I don’t mind it nearly as much because I’m surrounded by people I know I get along really well with. So to me, it’s a bonus that my boss is my mom.
I hope that this clears up some confusion about me, and that this was kind of a “Frequently Asked Questions” to clear the air. I’m excited to see how this takes off!
