I prepare taxes for individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations. Specialties include self-employed folks and Americans living overseas. I'm proud to say I have clients on six continents (still waiting for my first penguin on Antarctica - if you know penguins who need their US taxes done, give them my name!)
Before that, I ran other people’s high end retail businesses for over 25 years.
In 1996 I opened my own business, Uptown Scoop, Washington DC's coolest ice cream store. Preparing taxes was a great, although unusual, combination with ice cream. I used my Connecticut Avenue storefront to advertise “The Only Legal Way to Fudge Your Taxes” and “Let Larry Do Your Taxes While You Eat Ice Cream.” Two radio stories appeared about the strange combination, one on American Public Media’s Marketplace and the other on NPR’s American Anthem. I was privileged to cater two ice cream parties at the White House and Executive Office Building. The first was for a departing member of President Clinton's legal staff, and another when First Lady Hillary Clinton bade farewell to several retiring staff members. Top that, Ben or Jerry! Uptown Scoop grew steadily for four years, but the landlady sold the strip of buildings to developers who moved most of the old one-of-a-kind tenants out in favor of more corporate-looking tenants. It was a lot of fun but it was time to move on.
