I could go bankrupt behind this... but a deal is a deal. 😂

After I hired my oldest son, Carter, to write our newsletter this summer, my youngest daughter Zoe kept asking when she was going to get a job.

I kept telling her, “When an opportunity presents itself, I’ll let you know.”

Well... yesterday she decided not to wait.

She walked up to me with a business proposal.

“Dad, there’s this trend going around. I’ll make you the video.”

I asked her, “How much are you charging?”

Without missing a beat, she said, “Per likes.”

So now I apparently have an employee whose compensation depends on all of you. 😅

The assignment?

“My papa said come to The Oasis Firm.”

Five different moods. One determined little entrepreneur.

The funny part is, this wasn’t really about the video.

She saw an opportunity where she had been told there wasn’t one. She created value, proposed a deal, and made sure both of us could benefit.

That’s business.

The best opportunities aren’t one-sided. They’re win-win.

So if someone tells you there isn’t an opportunity...

Get creative.

There just might be one hiding in plain sight.

“Still waiting on my refund?”

Today I reviewed a case where the IRS had been holding a taxpayer’s money since 2024.

The refund wasn’t denied.

The paperwork wasn’t missing.

The money was simply stuck behind a hold.

One phone call uncovered the issue.

One referral got the case moving.

The lesson?

Waiting is not a strategy.

And remember: some IRS refunds and claims have deadlines. If you wait too long, the money may no longer be yours to claim.

One thing life teaches eventually is that momentum can create illusions.

People start thinking:
“This always works.”
“I’ll always get away with it.”
“Nothing’s happened yet.”

Until one day
 something changes.

And honestly, I think that applies to more than just taxes.

Habits.
Relationships.
Business decisions.
Health.
Finances.

A lot of situations feel sustainable right up until they aren’t.

That’s why I respect awareness so much now.

Not paranoia.
Not fear.

Just understanding that actions eventually compound into outcomes.

One thing adulthood teaches you quickly is that responsibility can’t fully be outsourced.

Not financially.
Not professionally.
Not personally.

Advice is important.
Experts are important.
Guidance is important.

But understanding what’s happening with your own life still matters too.

Especially with money and taxes.

Because a lot of people blindly trust things they never fully asked questions about.

And sometimes the issue isn’t bad intentions


it’s assumptions, miscommunication, or lack of expertise in a specific area.

That’s why I respect people who encourage education instead of dependency.

People who want you informed, not just compliant.

So now I’m curious

One thing I’ve learned over time is that clarity actually protects relationships.

A lot of people think avoiding uncomfortable conversations keeps things peaceful.

Sometimes it does the opposite.

Whether it’s friendship, business, money, or partnerships


unspoken expectations tend to become future frustrations.

That’s why communication matters so much.

Transparency.
Accountability.
Following through.
Respecting people’s time and effort.

Those things help relationships last.

And honestly, one of my favorite parts of entrepreneurship has been watching people around me grow with me over the years.

Clients becoming friends.
Friends becoming collaborators.
Coworkers becoming family.

That kind of trust means something.

So now I’m curious

One thing I’ve noticed is that growth usually asks for inconvenience first.

Not motivation.
Not inspiration.

Inconvenience.

The willingness to:
Wake up earlier.
Drive farther.
Stay disciplined longer.
Keep showing up when comfort says otherwise.

And honestly, a lot of opportunities look ordinary in the beginning.

A meeting.
A conversation.
An introduction.
A room you almost skipped.

Until later
 when you realize how much changed because you decided to show up.

That’s why I respect consistency more than hype these days.

So now I’m curious

One of my favorite things about culture is how much wisdom gets passed down casually.

Not through textbooks.
Not through lectures.

Through conversations.
Meals.
Music.
Family gatherings.
Little sayings people repeat without even realizing how deep they are.

And the older I get, the more I realize those small things shape identity more than we think.

Tonight was a beautiful reminder of that.

Different cultures.
Different foods.
Different backgrounds.

Yet everybody still gathering around the same table in some way.

That’s powerful.
