Most agency owners track the wrong numbers. These 3 tell you if you’re building a scaling business or just a highly paid job.

When I consult new clients, I ask for one thing: their key metrics.

I want to see what they’re looking at.

✅ What you track is what you get better at.

Only 3 metrics really matter for agency scale:

1️⃣ Gross Margin % - Target: 55–70%.
If it’s under that, you’re over-delivering or undercharging.

2️⃣ Labor Efficiency Ratio - Target: 2.0+
Above 2.0 - you’re in the sweet spot.
Below 2.0 - your team structure or pricing model needs work.

3️⃣ Utilization Rate - Target: 70-80%
Your service team should bill 70–80% of their available hours.

You don’t need a full-time CFO or 100-line dashboard. Just visibility into the numbers that move your margins.

👉 Track these 3, and you’ll always know whether your growth is profitable or you’re just busy.
