Several kinds of major life events can affect an individual taxpayer's filing requirements, tax benefits, and withholding. The major life events the IRS considers include marriage, welcoming a new child, divorce, or the loss of a loved one- all of which can impact your tax situation.

After any major life event, taxpayers should review their withholding, update their personal information, and keep important records.

Questions? Contact us about how these changes may affect your taxes so we can help prepare you for the next filing season.

Working overtime this summer? It could pay off at tax time next year.

Thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts (effective 2025-2028), you may be able to deduct up to $12,500 of qualified overtime pay ($25,000 if you're married filing jointly) on your federal return. Hold on to your last pay stub showing your qualified overtime work and include when dropping off your taxes. Our tax professionals will need it to verify to make sure you qualify for the deduction.

Happy National Work From Home Day! If you're self-employed and use part of your home regularly and exclusively for business, you may qualify for the home office deduction. This deduction can help reduce both your income tax and self-employment tax.

Keep in mind, this deduction is NOT available to W-2 employees working remotely.

Not sure if you qualify? Be sure to ask us during your next tax planning meeting or when it's time to file your return. We'd be happy to help determine if you're eligible!
