We’re excited to share another feature from our Founder and CEO, LaMichelle Hecht, CPA!

LaMichelle’s latest article, “AI Can Be Confidently Wrong. Accountants Cannot.”, is now available through the Virginia Society of CPAs' VSCPA Disclosures.

In the article, she explores both the opportunities and the risks that come with using artificial intelligence in accounting. AI can help professionals research, draft, organize information, and work more efficiently — but it cannot replace professional judgment, verification, or accountability.

As LaMichelle explains, the goal is not to avoid AI. It’s to use it well while maintaining the standards our profession demands.

We’re proud to see her continuing to share her expertise and contribute to conversations about where the accounting profession is headed.

Most nonprofits don’t lose funding because they aren’t changing lives.

They lose funding because they can’t consistently demonstrate financial stewardship.
That was one of the biggest conversations during my session at Building Bridges: Hope, Healing, and Prevention Community Day.
I had the privilege of speaking with nonprofit leaders who care deeply about their communities, and many are navigating increasing expectations around grants, compliance, reporting, and accountability.

The mission is rarely the problem. The systems behind the mission often are.
When organizations strengthen their financial processes, they don’t just prepare for audits.
They build credibility with funders, confidence with their boards, and stability for the people they serve.

These are the discussions that help nonprofits protect the work that matters most.

Juneteenth means more to me than a date on the calendar.

A few years ago, through ancestry testing, I learned more about my family’s history and discovered that my ancestors were among those brought to this country in the 1600s. While I always knew our history carried both pain and perseverance, seeing those connections laid out in front of me made it deeply personal.

Today, I think about the generations who endured what I can hardly imagine. I think about the sacrifices they made, the strength they carried, and the resilience that lives on through their descendants.

Because of them, I have opportunities they were denied. I have the privilege of owning a business, serving clients, leading a team, and creating a legacy for the next generation.

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, but it is also a reminder. A reminder to remember. A reminder to honor those who came before us. A reminder that progress is possible because of the courage and determination of ordinary people who refused to give up hope.

Today, I celebrate their legacy with gratitude. And I remain committed to building something worthy of the sacrifices that made my journey possible.
