The leaves are turning, which means you have roughly ten weeks to make anything happen before the calendar resets.
A few items that get easier in October and harder in late December:
▪️Required minimum distributions. If you're subject to one, it has to be out by year-end, and the penalty for missing it runs up to 25%.
▪️Roth conversions. December 31 is the deadline; there's no extension, and a conversion can't be reversed once it's made.
▪️Charitable giving. Deduction rules changed for 2026, so the approach that worked last year may not be the efficient one now.
▪️Beneficiary designations. Free to update, quick to handle, and they override your will on retirement accounts.
Custodians slow down as the year winds down. Charities need processing time. The last week gives you whatever can be finished in an afternoon.
