The big one. Produce, baked goods, coffee, crafts, and a whole lot of community energy.

Bossier City Farmers Market — Pierre Bossier Mall
Food trucks, vendors, live vibes, and one of the most family friendly markets in the region.

Ruston Farmers Market — Downtown Ruston
Farm to table freshness, handmade goods, and a tight‑knit local crowd.

Texarkana Farmers' Market — Downtown Texarkana
Sweet Treat Day is going down this Saturday. Fresh produce, local makers, and that classic downtown Texarkana Saturday vibe.

Some stories deserve more than a "thoughts and prayers" comment.

This is one of them.

I came across a post this morning saying Skinner's Grocery & Market-Longview is on the verge of closing its doors if business doesn't pick up.

Whether you've been there once or a hundred times isn't really the point.

The point is this...

How many times have we all said, "man, I miss the old days when every town had places like that?"

Well...

They don't disappear overnight.

They disappear one shopping trip at a time.

One "I'll just run to Walmart."

One "It's only a little cheaper over there."

One "I'll stop by next week."

Until one day...

There isn't a next week.

There's an empty building where a family business used to be.

There's one less place where the employees know your name.

One less place where conversations happen instead of self checkout machines telling you to "place your item in the bagging area."

One less piece of the community.

Corporate America isn't inherently evil.

They're just doing what corporations do.

But family owned businesses?

They're the places that sponsor Little League teams.

They donate to local fundraisers.

They know your grandparents.

They remember your kids.

They're woven into the fabric of a town.

Once they're gone...

They rarely come back.

So here's a simple challenge.

This week...

Skip one trip to the big chain.

Go spend twenty bucks at Skinner's instead.

Buy your steaks.

Grab a loaf of bread.

Pick up something for dinner.

It doesn't have to be a hundred dollar grocery haul.

If enough people each spend a little, it can make a very big difference.

Community isn't something government builds.

It isn't something corporations sell.

It's something we choose.

One purchase at a time.

Let's see if East Texas can remind everyone what supporting local actually looks like.
