🎃 **What's scarier than a haunted house?**

As we head into the final stretch of the year, there are plenty of tasks that can make a business owner's hair stand on end.

🚨 **Business owners, there's a BIG change for 1099 reporting in 2026!**

After years of the $600 reporting threshold, the IRS has increased it to **$2,000 for qualifying payments made in 2026.** 🎉

That means if you've paid an independent contractor $2,000 or more for qualifying services during 2026, you generally need to issue Form 1099-NEC.

But don't let the higher threshold fool you into thinking there's less preparation to do!

Now is the time to:

✅ Review payments made to independent contractors.

✅ Make sure you have completed W-9 forms on file.

✅ Verify names, addresses, and tax identification numbers.

✅ Identify which vendors may require a 1099.

✅ Resolve missing information BEFORE January arrives.

And please, for the love of bookkeeping, **don't wait until January to start chasing down W-9s!** 😂

A little preparation now makes 1099 season a whole lot easier.

📌 Save this reminder and share it with another business owner who needs to know!

📊 Your Revenue Doesn't Tell the Whole Story!

💰 **Your business brought in $100,000. Congratulations! But how much did you actually KEEP?**

That's the question too many business owners forget to ask.

Revenue is exciting. Watching sales increase feels great! 🎉

But growing revenue doesn't automatically mean your business is becoming more profitable.

That's why understanding your financial metrics matters.

📊 Are your expenses growing faster than your sales?

💵 Do you have enough cash available to cover upcoming obligations?

📈 Are your profit margins improving or shrinking?

🧾 How much money is sitting in unpaid customer invoices?

These numbers tell a much bigger story about the health of your business than revenue alone.

**And here's the part we really want business owners to understand:**

You don't need to become an accountant to understand your finances.

You DO need to know which numbers matter, what they're telling you, and when it's time to make adjustments.

Because financial reports shouldn't just tell you what happened last month.

**They should help you decide what to do NEXT.** 💙

👉 Swipe through for five financial metrics every small business owner should understand.

Which number do you pay the most attention to in your business?

📊 **Your business has $30,000 in unpaid invoices and $20,000 in bills to pay. You're in good shape, right?**

Not necessarily! 🤔

Here's why understanding your Accounts Receivable (A/R) and Accounts Payable (A/P) matters.

💰 **Accounts Receivable:** Money your customers owe YOU.

💸 **Accounts Payable:** Money YOU owe your vendors and suppliers.

Now, back to those numbers.

You have $30,000 coming in and $20,000 going out. On paper, that sounds pretty good!

But what happens if your customers won't pay for another 45 days and your vendors expect payment next week?

Suddenly, you've got a cash flow problem. 😬

**It's not just about HOW MUCH money is coming in and going out. It's about WHEN.**

That's why business owners should regularly review their A/R and A/P aging reports.

Knowing what's owed, what's overdue, and what's coming due helps you make better decisions about spending, collections, and cash flow.

**Here's your Tuesday question:**

Could your business comfortably pay its upcoming bills if your customers were two weeks late paying theirs? 👀

👻 What would you do if you weren’t afraid?

Starting a business can be scary.
Raising your prices can be scary.
Hiring your first employee can be scary.
Letting go of a client who isn't a good fit can be scary.
Looking closely at your numbers can DEFINITELY be scary. 😬
Making a big change when what you're doing feels “safe” can be scary.

But being afraid doesn't necessarily mean you're making the wrong decision.

Sometimes it means you're doing something you've never done before.

You don't have to wait until the fear disappears to take the next step. You can be nervous, uncertain, and even a little scared...

and do it anyway. 💙

Growth usually happens somewhere outside that comfortable little place we've gotten used to.

So, in the spirit of Halloween week... 🎃👻

What's one thing you've done in your business that scared you, but you're glad you did?

You didn't start your business because you dreamed of spending your evenings reconciling bank accounts or figuring out why your numbers don't match. 😂

Ever wonder why buying a $200 office chair might show up differently in your financial reports than purchasing a $20,000 piece of equipment? 🤔

It comes down to the difference between **operating expenses and capital expenditures.**

📋 **Operating expenses** are the everyday costs of keeping your business running, like rent, utilities, advertising, and software subscriptions.

🏗️ **Capital expenditures** are generally investments in assets that will benefit your business for more than one year, such as vehicles, machinery, major equipment, or building improvements.

Here's where things get interesting!

An operating expense typically reduces your profit in the period it's incurred.

A capital purchase, on the other hand, may be recorded as an asset on your Balance Sheet, with its cost recognized over time through depreciation.

**But here's the important part: Not every purchase of equipment or furniture needs to be capitalized.** The amount, nature of the purchase, and your business's accounting policies matter.

And with year-end approaching, this distinction is worth understanding before making major purchases.

💡 **Remember:** Spending money just to reduce your taxes isn't always a smart business decision. Make sure the purchase makes financial sense first!

📋 **December 31 isn't the deadline to START getting organized!**

Every year, business owners reach January and suddenly realize how much financial housekeeping they still need to do.

Missing transactions. Unreconciled accounts. Unpaid invoices. Incomplete W-9s. 😬

Sound familiar?

Here's the thing: **A successful year-end close doesn't happen overnight.**

It starts with making sure your financial records are accurate, reviewing what your numbers are telling you, and taking care of the things you can still address before the year ends.

And it's not just about getting ready for your tax professional.

It's about knowing where your business stands today so you can make better decisions for 2027. 📊

We've put together a year-end checklist to help you get started.

And tell us, what's the ONE year-end task you always seem to put off until the last minute? 😂

One of the biggest financial surprises for business owners is discovering that being profitable doesn't necessarily mean having money available when you need it. 😳

And with Q4 underway, timing matters!

Think about it...

💰 You have customers who owe you money, but haven't paid yet.

👥 Payroll is coming up, including possible holiday bonuses.

🧾 Tax payments are due, whether your customers have paid you or not.

💸 Equipment purchases, inventory, and holiday expenses may be right around the corner.

That's why forecasting these four numbers is so important.

Knowing what you expect to collect and what you'll need to pay over the next several weeks helps you spot potential cash shortages before they become emergencies.

And here's something we encourage business owners to remember:

Revenue is not the same as cash collected, and profit is not the same as cash in the bank.

A little planning today can prevent some uncomfortable surprises tomorrow.

Have you looked ahead at your cash needs for the rest of 2026? 👀
