Last week, a few of us had the honor of attending the Angels Dinner for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County.

Their mission is simple but powerful: to inspire young people—especially those who need them most—to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens within a safe environment that cultivates learning and growth.

We had the opportunity to tour the campus with one of the current students, connect with alumni, and hear inspiring stories from both staff and former members. Seeing the impact of this organization firsthand was truly meaningful.

A mid–tax season recharge was just what we needed! 🙌

A big thank you to our amazing partners, Scott and Mindy, for treating the team to a lunch break last week. The 8th Biennial Windsor Charity Polo Cup was more than an afternoon of thrilling chukkers and elegant tailgates — it was a celebration of what happens when a community comes together with heart.

We are proud of Amy Gomez for the insightful and engaging presentation she delivered today at Caldwell Trust Company on the modernization of Florida’s fiduciary framework.

Amy delivered a comprehensive overview of the transition from the Florida Principal & Income Act (FPIA) to the newly enacted Florida Uniform Fiduciary Income and Principal Act (FUFIPA), effective January 1, 2025. Her depth of knowledge and ability to translate complex statutory changes into practical guidance provided tremendous value to everyone in attendance.

Key highlights from Amy’s presentation included:

▪️ The shift from the “Prudent Person” rule to the “Prudent Investor” standard and the increased application of modern portfolio theory

▪️ Expanded fiduciary flexibility under the new “Assistance” standard for adjusting between income and principal

▪️ Enhanced transparency requirements and strengthened protections for fiduciaries acting in good faith

▪️ Significant restructuring and clarification of unitrust rules, including expanded authority without court approval

▪️ Updates to entity distribution rules, including the move to a 3-year lookback period

▪️ Important provisions regarding decanting, ademption by satisfaction, governing law determinations, and community property clarification

Amy’s presentation emphasized how FUFIPA modernizes trust administration, reduces operational and compliance risks, and better equips fiduciaries to balance the interests of income and remainder beneficiaries in today’s evolving trust landscape.
Her expertise, clarity, and practical insight made this session both informative and actionable for legal and fiduciary professionals.
