BREAKING NEWS: During the current U.S. federal government shutdown (as of October 24, 2025), the IRS is not processing Powers of Attorney (POA) forms, such as Form 2848, due to the suspension of non-essential operations. The IRS's Lapse in Appropriations Contingency Plan indicates that activities like processing paper correspondence, including POA submissions, are on hold, as most of the staff handling these tasks are furloughed. Only automated systems and essential functions (e.g., e-filing, payment processing, criminal investigations) continue.
What this means:
New POA submissions (paper or fax) will not be processed until the shutdown ends and normal operations resume.
Existing POAs already in the Centralized Authorization File (CAF) system should still allow authorized representatives to act on behalf of taxpayers for essential functions, like accessing automated services or handling active compliance cases.
Delays are expected to create backlogs, so processing times may be extended even after funding is restored.
Processing
Amended returns, refund checks, new tax-exempt status applications, and pension plan determinations are on hold. Transcripts and notices not updated.

IRS released this information on April 4, 2025. However with the automatic extension to May 1, it does not extend past that and we would gladly assist you in filing another extension to Oct 15, 2025 for Individuals. Extensions do not extend time to pay taxes due, so when filing your extension try to send a payment with the extension to alleviate some of the interest and penalties that will accrue until return is filed and paid in full.

The IRS extended the 2024 tax filing/payment deadline to May 1, 2025, for disaster-area taxpayers in select states. No request is needed. To file after May 1, request an extension. Payments are still due May 1.

FinCEN Not Issuing Fines or Penalties in Connection with Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting Deadlines
February 27, 2025
WASHINGTON––Today, FinCEN announced that it will not issue any fines or penalties or take any other enforcement actions against any companies based on any failure to file or update beneficial ownership information (BOI) reports pursuant to the Corporate Transparency Act by the current deadlines. No fines or penalties will be issued, and no enforcement actions will be taken, until a forthcoming interim final rule becomes effective and the new relevant due dates in the interim final rule have passed.

02/19/2025

To allow businesses additional time to comply, FinCEN has extended the BOI filing deadline by 30 days for most companies. The new filing deadline is March 21, 2025, unless a later date applies to businesses in a federally declared disaster area. FinCEN is also considering further modifications to reporting requirements and deadlines, particularly for lower-risk small businesses.

Please refer to the Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting Rule and Beneficial Ownership Information Access and Safeguards Rule, available at www.fincen.gov/boi, for details on specific provisions. FinCEN expects to publish additional guidance in the future. Questions may be submitted on FinCEN’s Contact web page

In light of a recent federal court order, reporting companies are not currently required to file beneficial ownership information with FinCEN and are not subject to liability if they fail to do so while the order remains in force. The following guidance should be understood to address the requirements at such a time as the order may be lifted. However, reporting companies may continue to voluntarily submit beneficial ownership information reports. To learn more, visit fincen.gov/boi.

A final rule implementing the beneficial ownership information reporting requirements of the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) was issued in September 2022. These regulations go into effect on January 1, 2024. Beneficial ownership information will not be accepted prior to January 1, 2024.

IRS provides relief for Helene;
Various deadlines postponed to May 1, 2025

See IR-2024-253, Oct. 1, 2024 for more details.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today announced disaster tax relief for all individuals and businesses affected by Hurricane Helene, including the entire states of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina and parts of Florida, Tennessee and Virginia.

Taxpayers in these areas now have until May 1, 2025, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. Among other things, this includes 2024 individual and business returns normally due during March and April 2025, 2023 individual and corporate returns with valid extensions and quarterly estimated tax payments.
The IRS is offering relief to any area designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Besides all of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, this currently includes 41 counties in Florida, eight counties in Tennessee and six counties and one city in Virginia.
Individuals and households that reside or have a business in any one of these localities qualify for tax relief. The same relief will be available to other states and localities that receive FEMA disaster declarations related to Hurricane Helene. The current list of eligible localities is always available on the Tax relief in disaster situations page on
