Possible Cure for Tay-Sachs Disease

Abstract

Tay-Sachs is a rare autosomal recessive disease that leads to the
over-accumulation of GM2 within neurons, consequently impairing the
nervous system. Currently, there is no cure for this neurodegenerative disease,
resulting in a 100 percent death rate. There has been some investigation on
enzyme replacement therapy and CRISPR gene editing technology in regard
to finding a cure. However, research has been greatly limited due to the lack
of funding Tay-Sachs disease receives. This paper addresses some current
conducted research and possible directions for future clinical trials, dedicated

to finding a cure.
