Clients! If you received Tips and/or Overtime in 2025, if your W-2 does not show those amounts, PLEASE bring your final pay stub of 2025 with your tax documents.

Reporting of these items was optional for 2025, so if you would like to try to claim the credits, we need to know what numbers to use. NOT having the needed information will significantly slow down the process, as we will have to put you back in line while we wait for the numbers to be submitted.

Happy New Year!

Organizers and Engagement Letters are starting to be sent out via e-mail today. It is a fairly lengthy process, so if you're toward the end of the alphabet, you may not get your copies until later this week/early next week.

A couple of highlights from the e-mail:

1. As has been the case in previous years, we cannot begin your return without the Engagement Letter signed and returned to us.

2. The portal REQUIRES 2-Factor Authentication. We can't change that, it's for your safety and they do not allow us to turn it off. You can use your e-mail, text, or an authentication app to retrieve your code.

3. Appointments can be scheduled online with the App. This is not required, but it does save everyone time, as availability is visible in real-time

Our e-mails are currently down. We're on the phone with support, and it could be a little while before they're back up and running. It has to do with a merger between two email providers, and apparently our account was deleted by mistake. In the meantime, please use [email protected] for any email correspondence that needs to take place.

Just a reminder: We are not permitted to submit a tax return without a SIGNED Form 8879, giving us permission to do so. We also need to have a SIGNED engagement letter (per our insurance policy), and we must receive payment in order to satisfy the Paid Preparer portion of the tax return. Once all three of these items are satisfied, we can then submit your return!

We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause, but we are bound by many professional standards and regulations.

If you haven't filed yet, we advise that you have the items in the article ready to go so filing can be quickly completed if it needs to be done.

The roller coaster continues, as the 5th U.S. Circuit Court's decision on Dec. 26 suspends the deadline once again for most reporting companies to file BOI reports with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.

As we've been expecting for the better part of 2024, the BOI Reporting has been halted, for now. With the filing date for previously-started companies being before 1/1/25, we opted to not start doing them until late-December, in order to see what the courts had to say about it. This allowed our clients to have someone in their corner, but not have to be charged a fee for something that might not be needed.

PLEASE be diligent, though, if you have not filed. Keep an eye on the courts, because they could, at almost any time, decide to make this a requirement again. The injunction is in place until the appeal process can be completed.

Finding the Corporate Transparency Act “likely unconstitutional,” a federal district court prohibited its enforcement and the enforcement of its accompanying regulations.
