It’s Tax Tip Tuesday! I know it’s been awhile, hopefully all is well and good. 🧡

Are you looking forward to filing your taxes? I know many of you are therefore, I am happy to share that the IRS has announced that they will officially open for e-filing on January 29th!

👉 If you file as an individual, sole proproetor, or single member LLC then your deadline is April 15th at 12am midnight!

👉 If you file as a Partnership, SCorp, Multi Member LLC then your deadline is March 15th at 12am midnight!

All tax documents should be received by January 31st. If not, please reach out to your employer, banking institution, mortgage company, school etc.

TAX TIP TUESDAY!!

Make sure to choose your tax professional wisely. While many tax professionals provide honest, quality service, some may cause harm through fraud, identify theft and other scams.

Beware of the “ghost preparer”. 👻

A ghost preparer is someone who doesn’t sign tax returns they prepare. They will print your return, have you sign and mail it to the IRS. If they file the return electronically, they will refuse to digitally sign as the paid preparer.

I know taxes can be confusing, everyone wants to get a large refund and no one wants to pay a ridiculous price to have their taxes prepared. However, it’s better to use a tax professional that has credentials, doesn’t have limited availability and one who doesn’t count corners.

Have you heard? I’m sure you have. Well, in case you haven’t, the IRS will officially start the 2023 tax filing season tomorrow January 23rd.

If you are still waiting on your W-2s and/or other wage statements don’t worry. You should receive your documents no later than January 31st. If not, please reach out to your employer.

As always, make sure you have all of your documents before you submit them to your tax preparer. Filing a complete and accurate return can avoid the possibility of needing to file an amended tax return.

Lastly, April 18th is the deadline to file and/or request an extension. If you request an extension, you will have until October 16th to file your return.

If you missed the April 18th deadline to file your taxes, here are a few things to know.

1. File your return as soon as you can and pay as much as you can to reduce penalties and interest.

2. File electronically, as this is the faster way to submit your returns.

3. Late filing and late payment penalty and interest on unpaid taxes add up quickly. However, in some cases, if you file after the deadline you may qualify for penalty relief.

4. You usually qualify if you have filed and paid timely for the past three years and meet other requirements.
