Today, the IRS announced that Monday, Jan 27, 2025 is the official Start date of E-file for 2024 Tax Returns

IR-2025-08, Jan. 10, 2025 — The Internal Revenue Service today announced that the nation’s 2025 tax season will start on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, and will feature expanded and enhanced tools to help taxpayers as a result of the agency’s historic modernization efforts.

‼️DON’T FORGET YOUR IP PIN‼️

Taxpayers should have already receive their CP01A Notice in the mail 📬

You will receive this notice if you were assigned an Identity Protection Personal Identification Number containing an Individual Protection (IP) PIN to file your taxes 📄

The IRS will send out these notices from mid-December through early January 🗓️

If you opted in online to get an IP PIN, you will not receive a CP01A notice, you must retrieve your IP PIN online beginning in early January every year 💻

If you were assigned an IP PIN last year, you MUST have one to file again this year. You cannot use a PIN from a previous tax year. A new IP PIN will be generated each year ✉️

If we issued you an IP PIN and you lost it or you didn't receive a new one in the mail, you'll need to obtain your IP PIN before you can e-file your return.

A COMMON QUESTION WE OFTEN HEAR

“Can I file my taxes with my last paystub?”

Your last check stub is not the officially recognized document to file your income tax return, according to the Internal Revenue Service.

That said, the real answer is “No, you can’t file a return using your last pay stub.”

Your last paycheck stub is not guaranteed to be an accurate statement of your annual earnings, and it could be missing some tax information that you need to file a full income tax return. If you file a return with inaccurate or missing information, you could be required to file an amended tax return. That could cost you more in tax preparation fees and could increase the amount of time it takes for the IRS to issue a refund.
