IRS will be sending letters to recipients of advance child tax credit and third round of economic impact payments. Taxpayers should hold onto the letters to help file their tax returns.

IRS will start accepting and processing returns on February 12th. This is to allow time to do additional programming and testing of the systems following the December 27th tax law changes that provided a second round of economic impact payments and other benefits. To speed refunds during the pandemic IRS urges taxpayers to file electronically with direct deposit as soon as you have all your information. Call to set an appointment now.

Well looks like IRS has now realized they have sent checks to deceased taxpayers and they would like them returned. If is was direct deposit to you account you can submit a personal check to U S TREASURY write 2020EIP and the taxpayers social security number on the memo line and mail to:
Austin Refund Inquiry Unit
3651 S Interregional Hwy 35
Mail Stop 6542
Austin TX. 78741

If you received a paper check write VOID IN THE ENDORSEMENT SECTION. Mail back to the address list above. Include a note stating reason for returning check.

Social security recipients who are not typically required to file a tax return DO NOT need to take an action, and will receive their payment directly to their bank account. Just as you normally receive your benefits.
