FYI: Things to keep in mind when preparing to bring in your tax documents:
1. If you purchased a brand new vehicle in 2025, we will need the VIN, Purchase Date, and the interest amount paid in 2025 from the bank. The vehicle had to have its final production in the USA. The banks may not send you a statement this year, so make sure to call and get this info. Not available on used vehicles.
2. Overtime: If you worked overtime in 2025, you may be able to claim part of it tax free. Keep in mind, all of the overtime is not tax free, so it has to be calculated using your final paystub of 2025. Employers are not required to post the info on the W2 until next year, so this year the actual amount will have to be calculated using the final paystub. A few companies may go ahead an provide the overtime figure voluntarily for 2025 on the W2, but it is not required. Just remember to bring in your final 2025 paystub if you worked overtime.
3. Tips: If you worked in a job that get's tips, then a big amount of your tips will be eligible for the "No tax on Tips". If you get a W2, then the amount we need will be provided on the W2. If you are self employed and in a profession that gets tips, then we can use the amount you calculated as tips vs regular income. Keep in mind that the IRS requires you to have proof by a log of actual tips paid and date. Keep in mind going forward to have your tips vs income separated on your point of sale device such as square, quickbooks, etc....
4: If you had Marketplace Insurance(Obamacare), remember that your return will not be accepted by the IRS without your Form 1095A from the marketplace. Please make sure you bring it when you come to file your taxes.
5: Social Security: The "One Beautiful Bill" did not change anything on the taxability to Social Security as the news may have made it sound. It still may be taxable in some situations. What did change was the bill provided a new $6,000 deduction per taxpayer over 65 to help offset any tax on Social Security. We can help you decide based on your situation if any of your Social Security is still taxable.
There are many more changes from the "One Beautiful Bill" that passed, so I would caution on attempting to prepare your own tax return. Some of these calculations will have to be done outside of the software before you even know what to input into the tax return this year.
