We know this time of year can feel busy - especially for small business owners juggling all the things. As you’re gathering documents and finalizing numbers, here’s a friendly reminder not to overlook some commonly forgotten business deductions:

• Home office expenses (if you use a dedicated space)
• Business mileage for client meetings, bank trips, or supply runs
• Software subscriptions & online tools
• The business portion of your cell phone & internet
• Continuing education, licenses, and certifications
• Bank fees & credit card processing fees
• Office supplies and small equipment purchases

These expenses add up quickly - you don’t want to leave money on the table.

If you’re still wrapping things up, take a few extra minutes to review your numbers. We’re here if you have any questions!

3 things to do before you file:
✔️ Confirm your personal details
✔️ Gather all income documents
✔️ Organize deductions and credits

2 mistakes we see every tax season:
❌ Missing key documents
❌ Waiting until the last minute

1 thing that makes the difference:
Planning before filing. The best tax outcomes aren’t created in April — they’re built throughout the year.

It’s 2026, but you can still fund your 2025 IRA until April 15.

What you should know:
- Depending on income, you can contribute up to $7,000 ($8,000 if 50+)
- Your Traditional IRA contribution may be tax-deductible, and you may also qualify for the Saver’s Credit, helping reduce your tax bill.
- You can fund both 2025 and 2026 right now (just be sure to apply contributions to 2025 first)

Check your IRA for “Prior Year Contributions.” If it’s not maxed, there’s still time.

Strikes, smiles, and networking!

We were proud to be the Presenting Sponsor of last night’s Super Bowling event with the Corridor 9/495 Regional Chamber of Commerce. An evening full of great connections, friendly competition, and plenty of strikes.

Thanks to everyone who came out to network, bowl, and bring the energy. Events like this remind us how strong and fun our business community is.

With the new overtime deduction included in the “Big Beautiful Bill,” some taxpayers may be able to reduce their taxable income based on overtime pay earned in 2025. However, the IRS is not updating 2025 W-2s to separately report overtime. This means you may need to review your pay stubs or employer records to determine how much of your 2025 income came from overtime.

Did you make your HSA contribution for 2025? You still have time.

If you’re enrolled in a high-deductible health plan, you can contribute up to $4,150 (individual) or $8,300 (family) for 2025 - you have until April 15, 2026 to do so. HSA (Health Savings Account) contributions are tax-deductible and grow tax-free when used for qualified medical expenses. For 2026, HSA contribution limits increase to $4,400 (individual) and $8,750 (family).

A quick tax season update: The IRS will begin accepting electronically filed tax returns on January 26. Returns can be prepared in advance, but e-filed returns will not be processed until that date. Preparing early can still help ensure a smoother filing process once submissions are accepted.

As of January 1, 2026, the standard mileage rate for business driving increased from 70¢ to 72.5¢ per mile under IRS guidance. This applies to 2026 mileage and will be reported during next tax season - not the current one. While this change directly impacts business owners and independent contractors, it also sets the maximum tax-free mileage reimbursement rate for employees.
