Need advance warning when road closures could impact missing train or appointments...
Some motorists contacted me this morning. Crews were working near Edgemont High School near Edgemont Road and cars had to make you turns --some missing their trains. The town needs to do a better job of warning motorists of road closures or work that is being done that could mess up a commute. I have suggested the use of digital boards. This has been a long standing problem. If you were impacted by today's work, missed a train because of lack of notification please e mail [email protected]. I am hopeful that the Town Board, police and DPW department will give this more attention.

🌿 Yesterday, our Town of Greenburgh High School interns shared information about the Greenburgh Green Task Force at the Greenburgh Public Library! 📚

Residents stopped by our table to learn more about recycling, sustainability initiatives, and simple ways to help keep our community greener. It was a great opportunity to answer questions, share resources, and connect with community members who are interested in making a positive environmental impact.

A big thank you to everyone who visited our table and to our dedicated summer interns (Henry, Vivian, Mark) and for helping spread the word about building a more sustainable Greenburgh!

Please note that Dobbs Ferry Road (eastbound lane, adjacent to the newly installed sidewalk) in the vicinity of Sciortino Place to Rt. 119 will be subject to road restoration (milling/paving) on Thursday, July 16th from 9:00am and throughout the day. Detour rerouting will be in place and to the extent possible, please plan accordingly expecting delays. This is anticipated to be a one-day restoration, with final striping planned for the week of 7/2

Town Board to consider law that will enable town to remove blighted conditions
At our last Greenburgh Town Board work session Liz Gerrity, Deputy Building Inspector, discussed a proposed law that I think is needed-dealing with property maintenance. The link to the discussion can be found here: This was the 2nd topic discussed

The purpose of the law is to provide the Town with a clear and consistent process for addressing blighting conditions that negatively impact neighborhoods, property values, public safety, and the overall quality of life within the Town.

Over the past several years, the Town has experienced an increasing number of complaints involving vacant and abandoned homes, overgrown properties, accumulation of debris and rubbish, junk vehicles, unsafe exterior conditions, and other nuisance conditions. While portions of these issues are addressed through existing provisions of the New York State Property Maintenance Code and Town Code, the proposed local law establishes a comprehensive local enforcement and abatement procedure.

The addition of Chapter 236 defines nuisance conditions including excessive overgrown vegetation, debris, garbage, rubbish, junk vehicles, and other conditions that threaten public health, safety, and welfare. It creates a formal notice and compliance process allowing property owners the opportunity to correct violations before further action is taken. Most importantly it provides a mechanism whereby the Town Board, following a public hearing, is authorized to determine that a public nuisance condition exists and, when necessary, authorize the Town to remove condition.

Chapter 236 also provides for recovery of all costs incurred by the Town, including labor, equipment, contractor services, administrative expenses, and legal costs, from the responsible property owner.

The proposed law is intended to provide a tool to address properties that have become a source of neighborhood blight or pose a danger to the public while ensuring due process protections for property owners through notice and hearing requirements.

The Town Board members and I all agree that this proposed law is needed. We plan to schedule a public hearing in August and should enact the legislation in early fall. Very pleased. A timely proposal. Some residents have complained about the speedway gas station on Central Ave that was closed. We issued a violation to the owner but they have 30 days to correct the problem. Hopeful this proposed law, once enacted, will provide the town with the ability to address quality of life concerns quicker.

Wanted: young adults in 20s, 30s, early 40s who want to be mentored -getting involved in government

NEXT MENTORING MEETING FOR YOUNG ADULTS IN 20s, 30s& early 40s is this Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 PM at town hall.

On Thursday evening, July 16 at 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM I will hold our next mentoring program for young adults in their 20s, 30s and early 40s who want to become involved in government and who may eventually want to run elective office. This is the 3rd mentoring session I have held—the first in person meeting, not held by zoom. The meeting will be held at Greenburgh Town Hall, 177 Hillside Ave White Plains. It is open to Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives, Working Families Party enrollees and Independents. We won’t talk about specific local issues but will provide tips to those interested in participating – how they can get involved.

The goal of this mentoring program is to develop the next generation of Greenburgh leaders. Young adults will gain practical knowledge about how local government works, making them better prepared to serve on boards, committees, civic association or run for office.

I will share info about experiences I have had as an elected official and as a civic activist. Many young people are interested in public service but don’t know how to get started. I will explain pathways into government and public service. I also want to bridge together relationships between experienced officials and young residents who participate. Younger residents may have different priorities and perspectives. Another benefit of the mentoring program is that we will encourage participation from resisdents with different backgrounds, professions and neighborhoods.

I plan to hold meetings on a monthly basis and will use this session to develop a plan for the coming months. Want to find out what participants feel would be most useful.

Greenburgh summer interns help distribute over 13,000 slippers to non profits

13,800 slippers distributed to Hispanic community with the help of Greenburgh summer interns

The Greenburgh summer internship was in the news yesterday. 13,800 slippers were donated to different non profits in Westchester by a philanthropist in Bedford. Maria Portilla, our Hispanic liaison met with me on Tuesday mentioning that the Hispanic community needed a place for the slippers to be dropped off -and we agreed that Greenburgh Town Hall would be a great location.

Yesterday morning trucks dropped of over 13,000 slippers to the parking lot at Town Hall and our Greenburgh summer interns spent some time helping load the slippers into vehicles that were going to distribute the slippers to different nonprofits in Westchester.

This was an excellent opportunity for interns to learn about philanthropy, empathy, to get introduced to different non profits that help people in need. And to make a positive contribution to the less fortunate.



Town Clerk Lisa Maria Nero and I sponsor the summer internship program. During the past two years interns have been assigned to work in different departments at Town Hall. The internship program was expanded into a nationally recognized summer program during the tenure of former Town Clerk Judith Beville. Today’s interns may be our future Governor’s, Senators and Nobel Prize winners! We have a great summer planned and will provide residents with periodic updates! Apple Bank has donated $5,000 a year to the program for decades!

John "Soho Johnny" Pasquale is the founder of the non-profit Let Me Help Inc. He donated the slippers, which were distributed among around 20 entities that primarily serve the Hispanic community. The shoes cost just shy of $70,000.



Around 30 to 40 student volunteers from the Town of Greenburgh helped to make the magic come alive.



Event organizer Robin Bikkal says "Project Warm Feet" is just a way to give back to the community.



"I think it's a pleasure to help out the community because I grew up here, so it's something good to be able to give back," said volunteer Jayden Siavichay.



The shoes came in all colors and sizes.

Around 30 to 40 student volunteers from the Town of Greenburgh helped to make the magic come alive.
