Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs recently vetoed a major Republican-backed tax conformity bill (SB 1106 in 2026) that aligned state taxes with federal changes from Donald Trump's tax cuts, deepening a political battle over tax policy, with Hobbs pushing for middle-class relief instead of broader business cuts. She also vetoed several other bills, including those related to immigration cooperation, land ownership by foreign adversaries, election procedures, and partisan budgets, often citing concerns about security, fairness, or ineffective policy.
Recent Major Veto (January 2026)
Bill: SB 1106 (Tax Conformity Bill).
Reason: Hobbs stated it favored billionaires and special interests, proposing a middle-class tax cut package instead, and accused Republicans of political theater.

IRS Urges Taxpayers to Choose Tax Preparers Carefully to Protect Their Personal Information
IRS.gov, 2/3/2025
The Internal Revenue Service reminds taxpayers that choosing the right tax professional is essential to helping them avoid tax-related identity theft and financial harm.

While most tax return preparers are trustworthy and provide high-quality service, some engage in fraud, identity theft and scams. Taxpayers must understand who they’re hiring and ask the right questions before handing over their sensitive personal and financial information.

Remember: Taxpayers are legally responsible for the accuracy of their income tax return, even if someone else prepares it.

BOI Reporting Put on Hold Yet Again

The Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting requirements under the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) have been temporarily halted following recent court rulings.

On Dec. 26, 2024, the 5th Circuit Court reversed an earlier stay, reinstating a preliminary injunction that prevents the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) from enforcing the BOI filing requirements:

“However, in order to preserve the constitutional status quo while the merits panel considers the parties’ weighty substantive arguments, that part of the motions-panel order granting the Government’s motion to stay the district court’s preliminary injunction enjoining enforcement of the CTA and the Reporting Rule is VACATED”

This ruling concludes that, while the court considers the appeal, the injunction stands, and BOI reporting is not required until a court decision is reached, providing a clear status update.

We’ll continue to provide updates on this evolving issue.
