I'm going to tell you something you may not expect a CPA to say.

I don't do this work just because I love math and numbers.

I mean, sure, I’m good with numbers and creating killer spreadsheets. 20-plus years of good spreadsheets. But that's not what gets me up in the morning.

I found out that accepting my own humanness is what allows me to bring real empathy and compassion to others.

I realized that the person sitting across from me wasn't just handing me a stack of financial documents.

They were handing me their worry. They were sharing deeply personal information. They were brimming with questions and perhaps even fears. They were holding expectations like "I should know this by now but I don't."

And I wondered if anyone had ever talked to them like a human about it.

So that's what I decided to be. A human. A CPA who actually listens. Who explains things in a way that makes sense. Who doesn't vanish after April 15th.

And if you've ever wished your CPA cared about your life as much as your tax return...

That's me.

The perk of being an S-corp is saving that 15.3% in self-employment tax, but that means the IRS wants to see a reasonable salary from you to cover those lost taxes.

“When should I start working with a CPA?”

Many business owners think their business needs to be at some magical number before they’re “worthy” of meeting with a CPA.

If that is you, PLEASE change that mindset right now as it could be costing you thousands of dollars!

The answer to when you should start working with a CPA is this: the day you DECIDE to start your business.

There is so much that can be done upfront, in terms of entity setup, accounting systems, and more that will help your business start off on the right foot.

Don’t wait until you’re five years in and suddenly haven’t filed your returns that entire time or have thrown away thousands from not tax planning.

You’re never too small to meet with a CPA.

If you’re years into operating your business and still have never gotten the financial side of it in order, it’s never too late.
