In 30-plus years of sitting down with families around the table, one question comes up more than almost any other: how do I get the most out of Social Security? Whether you're still deciding when to file or already collecting a check each month, the rules around spousal benefits, survivor benefits, and taxes affect what you keep.

As President of the AFEA Saint Clair County, IL Chapter, I'm hosting a free two-hour adult education workshop in Fairview Heights: Understanding Your Social Security Benefit Options. We'll cover how the rules work today and what they mean for your own situation, in plain language and at a comfortable pace.

What we’ll walk through together:
» When it makes sense to delay benefits, and when it does not
» Coordinating spousal and survivor benefits as a couple
» How working while receiving benefits affects what you collect
» How Social Security is taxed, and how it fits with pensions and IRAs
» The most common claiming mistakes, and what to do if one was already made

There are two evenings to choose from, both at The Rec Complex of Fairview Heights in the Municipal Complex Rec Room, 9950 Bunkum Rd:
