🚨 Minnesota Employers: Secure Choice Deadline Approaching

Does your business have 50–99 employees? An important Minnesota Secure Choice Retirement Program deadline is coming up.

📅 December 31, 2026

Minnesota businesses with 5 or more covered employees may be required to take action under the Minnesota Secure Choice Retirement Program.

What employers should know:
• If you do not offer a qualified retirement plan, you may be required to register and facilitate employee payroll deductions.
• If you already offer a qualified retirement plan, you generally do not have to participate — but you still need to certify your exemption.
The good news: certifying your exemption is quick and easy.
• Watch for your Minnesota Secure Choice Access Code, which is needed to register or certify an exemption.

Employers with 100+ employees had a June 30, 2026 deadline and should take action immediately if they have not already done so.

One week ago, we said goodbye to our Summer Accounting Interns. As National Intern Day coincided with their final day with us on July 30, it was the perfect opportunity to celebrate Hannah Bredesen and Olivia Olson! 🎉

Their internship kicked off at the Youth for Christ Swing for Teens Golf Outing ⛳, where they got to know each other and members of our team while supporting a great cause. From there, they gained hands-on experience by rotating through our Tax, Audit, and Payroll & Bookkeeping departments, giving them a well-rounded look at the accounting profession.

Along the way, they embraced every opportunity to learn, ask questions, and contribute to our team. They even got our entire office involved in a fun video, bringing plenty of laughs and showcasing the positive energy they shared throughout the summer.

To wrap up their internship, Hannah and Olivia presented to our partners, managers, and team, sharing what they learned and reflecting on how much they had grown throughout the experience.

Thank you, Hannah and Olivia, for your hard work, enthusiasm, and positivity. We truly enjoyed having you as part of the Westberg Eischens team and wish you all the best as you continue your accounting journeys.

🚗 The IRS has announced a mid-year increase to the standard business mileage rate.

Beginning July 1, 2026, the standard mileage rate for business use of a personal vehicle increased from 72.5¢ to 76¢ per mile. The IRS made this mid-year adjustment in response to higher fuel costs.

If you're a business reimbursing employees for mileage, be sure to review your reimbursement rates. If you're self-employed, be sure your mileage logs separate miles driven before and after July 1 so the correct rates are applied.

What a great evening at our annual Westberg Eischens Firm Family Fun Night! This year’s event was an evening at the ballpark. ⚾🐝❤️
