Happy Tax Day! Thanks to a client who was dropping off today (yes, we’ll file an extension) who snapped this for us in our “fancy” outfits.

Hours reminder: closing at 5pm today, closed April 16, open April 17, 9-2. Next week we begin our summer hours, MTTH 9-2 and Wednesday 9-6.

A very common "mistake" when starting a new job is on the W4 (used to set up Federal withholding). Married couples who both work should select "Single/Married Filing Separate." This can be confusing because maybe you don't file that way. However, it usually results in more accurate withholding. We wish they also called it the "Married and both spouses work" option!

We are saddened about the passing of our office and tax support dog, Bear. At about 16 years, he lived a long full life. He brightened many days for many people. He loved treats, even if they sometimes made him sick. He battled kidney disease for several years. In the end, we counted eight dog beds throughout his world. Much loved and will be missed!

The announced Monday, January 26, 2026, as the opening of the nation’s 2026 filing season. You will have until Wednesday, April 15, 2026, to file your 2025 tax returns and pay any tax due. Don’t forget that IRS.gov has online tools and resources you can use before, during and after filing your federal tax return. We are hearing your calls and questions about tax changes in The “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OBBB). How will it affect you? There are a wide range of changes and most taxpayers will benefit from the new law.

The most common question we've heard is about social security. Please note, the new law does not change the taxability of social security. The change relates to a new $6,000 deduction for taxpayers over 65. For many (but not all) that amount might be enough to offset the taxable social security. It will depend on your specific situation.

'Tis the season for "surprise" letters from IRS, RITA, and Ohio. If you get one, let us know so we can help. We usually need to see the letter. Our off-season hours are Monday, Tuesday Friday 9-2 and Wednesday 9-6. If those hours are not convenient, we have a night drop and a secure pick up boxes, as well as an Upload option.
