For those who are donating supplies to those in the mountain areas of NC for folks affected by Hurricane Helene, please read the post/picture below about dropping things off to FEMA and the Red Cross. PLEASE consider donating to a local church like ours, Freeman Street Baptist Church, or others you know to make sure that the supplies are delivered to the ones who are meant to receive them! The information below was confirmed yesterday to me by two folks who are aware of the situation.

USELESS REMNANTS

[Today's Scripture reading: Amos 3:1-15]

Imagine, if you will, a shepherd looking for a lamb who had strayed from the fold. Under a brush, he finds what is left of the sheep that a hungry lion has devoured...two legs and/or a piece of an ear.

This Shepherd was not just a herder of sheep, but he was the Shepherd of Psalm 23. This sheep was not ordinary, but representative of a child of God whom he refers to as sheep (John 10:27). The sad reality was that there were no more ears to listen to the Lord, no more eyes to see the beauty of God's creation. There were no feet to follow the footsteps of the Shepherd, no conscious ability to know the mind of Christ.

This was also no ordinary lion but is indicative of the roaring lion that is "seeking whom he may devour". (1 Peter 5:8)

The song entitled 'Greater Is He That Is In Me' speaks in verse about "Many souls have been his prey to fall in some weak hour..." who have wandered so far away from God's presence that they are no longer of any use for the cause of Christ. Thankfully, the rest of that stanza continues to tell us, "...but God has promised us today his overcoming power".

Verse 3 in the passage from Amos chapter 3 poses the question, "Can two walk together except they be agreed?" Our choice in life is whether to stay close to our Lord in agreement with him or to wander away and leave nothing useful, ie 'two legs and a piece of an ear'. What will it be? Selah

"RUN TO THE BALL!"

[Today's Scripture reading: 1 Corinthians 12:12-31]

For as long as I can remember, I have loved the game of football. I played sandlot football with my brothers, organized football in High School. As I was watching a pro football game last night, the constant theme for the defense on one team was that they all would, as a team effort, "run to the football!"

As Christians, we should strive to be like a well-oiled team that runs to the aid of our brethren when Satan levies his attack on one or more of them! Today's Scripture reading tells us that we are different parts of one in the body of Christ, and it exhorts us to love and care for the others, as all are somehow affected by an attack on the other.

Let's love our brethren, pray for them, and when Satan attacks, let's all "RUN TO THE BALL!" Selah!
