A Word From Filling The Lane 2024 Graduate Lequae Clark

To begin with, I’ve always loved the game of basketball, and it means so much to me. I was even finding a way to cope with dealing with trauma as a kid. But even then, I would still chase my dreams and pursue basketball. There were ups and downs throughout high school, but I stayed focused and consistent. Working my way up leading varsity, everything was going well until. I was moved to Florida, which led me to feel hopeless. But I grew faith in the lord and trusted he would guide me on the right path, and he did. Throughout my senior year, I did well, becoming the leading scorer for my varsity team at Davenport High School.

After the season, I started to face adversity, which led me to drift away from basketball. My hopes and dreams for college were starting to look crushed. Then, all of a sudden, I saw a flyer for FTL basketball tryouts, and so, looking into it a little more, I realized they offer great opportunities for people like me. With that, I attended the tryouts, and from the first day I walked in and saw how friendly and welcoming everyone was, it was where I wanted and needed to be.

I bonded with the directors and coaches as I made the team. Talking to them and gaining valuable knowledge I wouldn’t have access to before. Speaking to these coaches, they were talking to me and explaining their stories and how FTL has helped so much. Career-wise, I want to become a better person in general. Knowing this only grew my passion and made me strive to be better. We continued to perform and play at tournaments, traveling from state to state. I experienced traveling at the college level for the first time. But each game, we learned something new; for example, we went to where JFK got shot and learned some facts about him while playing in Texas. For each game, we would bond and spend time together as a team. And now, with the season ending, I am trusting and thanking them for making me a better person and teaching me things. Especially Dr.Miller because he has helped me through many rough times. Hoops
