Stanley J. Cook, CPA, LLC Tax and accounting with a servant's heart About the name... for years I had clients refer to me as the "Tax Man." But enough about me - what can I do for you?

But that's pretty generic, so adding my personal touch is worth a smile. About the business... I am a certified public accountant with 20-plus years of experience, now beginning a tax and accounting firm with a servant's heart. Hours are by appointment - please email [email protected]. I would be happy to meet with you and see if we have a "match." Enjoy the page - come back often and share with your friends!

Highly recommended for locals -

Hey friends! Holy Week is officially upon us, and we’re going to be holding our annual Stations of the Cross walkthrough this Friday!

Doors will be open from 6:00am-9:00am, and then again from 1:00pm-5:30pm, and again for some time after the community Good Friday service.

So feel free to come at your own convenience, and walk with Christ on the road to His crucifixion.

Tax word for the day - ‘extension.’ It’s okay! For sure I want everyone to feel well cared for but wanted to provide info about what an extension for tax purposes looks like. Have a great day!

Because we are also about community - congrats to Tri-County boys basketball on earning the title ‘2026 regional champs.’ Been great to see this group mature and improve since 7th grade. TC community can be proud of this group.

I used to think of him as the office mascot; I’m more inclined to believe he’s the office manager. Yes, Charlie the Cardinal is pretty nonplussed about the snow - I think his attitude is better than mine. But under his watchful eye the office is braced and ready to serve with a smile during this tax season 2026!

So it's Mr. Happy here again - regarding the Indiana property tax credit for seniors with income under a certain threshold.

I got a call from the auditor that they need a copy of the 2024 income tax return to verify income levels. I could tell I was getting slightly testy but asked, "Is that anywhere in the instructions - that the 2024 income tax return needs to be included?" Answer was - "Well, I'm not sure, but it does say we can verify the amounts shown." Again, good thing this form isn't due like, tomorrow or something. Ope.

I'll save the discussion for another time as to how well publicized this has been, but seniors, if you meet income limitations and if I"m tracking, file this form with county auditors by January 15 (!) then you may be eligible for a $150 property tax credit. This is not binding - this is not professional tax advice - it's a "Oh, January 15 is coming really soon and if info is sketchy - maybe this will benefit somebody.

Cumbersome, but click on form 43708.... trying to find actual links that are shareable is a bit messy at the moment...

Coming Monday! Goal is to keep it to 90 minutes or less but I have a feeling we'll have way more topics worthy of coverage than we will have time to address them. But yes please email [email protected] if you're planning to attend - however feel free to just show up as well. No pressure in any way - we want it to be a comfortable friendly evening as we broach difficult topics.

So I've gotten the impression that some expectations from the "OBBBA" is bigger tax refunds. I'm already bracing myself for the chats expressing "Hey I thought I would get a bigger refund."

What the bill DID do was help us avoid what would have been a big tax increase generally if we reverted to pre-2018 tax law.

I saw a video I was gonna' share but it got 'all political and stuff' so hard pass there.

But yeah, for 2025 tax things could have been significantly worse, but if a taxpayer has the same situation in 2025 as 2024, there may be improvement in some narrow circumstances but to expect a tax season flowing with milk and honey may be setting ourselves up for a fall.

Just offering a view from the cheap seats. Of course my view here may not apply at all to your situation.
