We are a group of Marin County residents committed to saving San Geronimo Golf Course, restoring our creeks and unifying our community. Our goal is to SAVE the people’s right to VOTE on the future use of the San Geronimo Golf Course land. The current ill-advised, taxpayer-funded acquisition orchestrated by the Marin County Board of Supervisors is a secret deal to destroy the golf course and “re-wild” the land with fire-prone weeds and invasive shrubs.
The County’s plans for the property run contrary to the San Geronimo Valley Community Plan approved by a previous Board of Supervisors in 1997.
The San Geronimo Golf Course offers a scenic gateway to the San Geronimo Valley and serves as a natural fire break to potentially devastating wildfires. The 2014 Coho-Friendly Habitat and Operations Plan written by SPAWN, paid for by California Fish and Wildlife and approved by The Valley Planning Group should NOT be ignored. It is a roadmap for the future. In addition, San Geronimo is a valuable asset which also serves the non-golfing community for social gatherings, community meetings, nonprofit fundraisers, weddings and music venues.
The 157-acre golf course is used by local youth golf teams at no charge or deeply discounted fees. The golf course employs approximately 30 people, pays payroll, sales and property taxes. For more than 50 years, it has been a successful Marin County business as well as a valuable asset to all Marin County residents. According to Greenbelt Alliance, 58 percent of Marin’s 333,000 acres are protected from development, or more than 190,000 acres. Allocating millions of taxpayer dollars to close a profitable, community recreational facility when there are so many other dire services in the county that need taxpayer funding should not be done without public input and at the discretion of our supervisors. VOTE to SAVE San Geronimo.
