WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service announced today that it will issue information letters to Advance Child Tax Credit recipients starting in December and to recipients of the third round of the Economic Impact Payments at the end of January. Using this information when preparing a tax return can reduce errors and delays in processing.

The IRS urged people receiving these letters to make sure they hold onto them to assist them in preparing their 2021 federal tax returns in 2022.

01/12/2022

Recipients of advance Child Tax Credit payments will need to compare the amount of payments received during 2021 with the amount of the Child Tax Credit that can be claimed on their 2021 tax return.

Those that received less than the amount they are eligible for can claim a credit for the remaining amount. Those that received more than they are eligible for may need to repay some or all of the excess amount.

The IRS will send Letter 6419 in January of 2022 to provide the total amount of advance Child Tax Credit payments that were received in 2021. The IRS urges taxpayers receiving these letters to make sure they hold onto them to assist them in preparing their 2021 federal tax returns in 2022.

We will not be doing in person appointments this year due to the virus. The safety of our clients and staff is very important and the only way to ensure that safety is to be socially distant. We have, sadly, lost many friends to this pandemic and we don't want to add to the growing number.

We have a drop box in the front hall that can be used to get your information to us. Just call after you drop off so we can get them promptly. Fax and email also work. Feel free to call if you have questions.

We will be completing returns on a "first in " basis. As soon as you have your w2's etc. get them to us. Next week I will post a list of tax items to serve as a check list.

For those who received unemployment, remember to download your statement from the state web site. New Jersey will not be sending out the statements
