💙 What a beautiful day to Brunch in Blue! GT was proud to sponsor the 4th annual Angelman Syndrome fundraising event at CHS Field yesterday. Between the sunshine, smiles, and incredible community support, more than $45,000 was raised for Angelman syndrome research!
Angelman syndrome (AS) is a rare neuro-genetic disorder that affects approximately 1 in 15,000 live births, or about 500,000 people worldwide. Because AS shares characteristics with conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, and Prader-Willi syndrome, misdiagnosis can be common. Signs often appear in early childhood and may include walking and balance challenges, gastrointestinal issues, seizures, and little to no speech.
While these challenges are significant, one thing that stands out about the Angelman community is joy. Individuals with AS are often known for their happy, excitable nature, lighting up every room with their smiles, laughter, and contagious spirit. ✨😊
