Knowing what you own is one thing. Knowing how much risk comes with it is another.

As retirement gets closer, it may be worth looking beneath your account balance and understanding how your portfolio is actually positioned. πŸ”

Risk isn't something that should be determined by guesswork. Understanding your investments can help you evaluate whether your current approach still makes sense for the next stage of your financial life.

YWA across the pond! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§βœˆοΈ

Ryan and Paige traded Georgia for London for a few days with Magellan, complete with sightseeing and a visit to the iconic Abbey Road Studios. 🎢

A pretty incredible experience and plenty of memories to bring back home. A big thank you to Magellan Financial & Insurance Services, Inc for making the trip one to remember!

The investment strategy that made sense while you were working may not feel the same once retirement begins.

During your career, you may have time and ongoing income on your side when markets fluctuate. Retirement can change that equation, especially when your portfolio becomes a source of income rather than an account you're continuing to build.

🎬 Paige and Ryan explore more retirement conversations like this on "Your Wealth Matters", airing Saturdays at noon on CBS.

You've built the retirement account. Now, how does it become a paycheck? 🀷

That's a question Ryan hears often from people who have spent years saving but still aren't sure whether retirement is within reach.

Accumulation and retirement income are different conversations. Understanding how your savings may translate into income can give you a much clearer picture of where you actually stand.

What would financial independence mean for your life? πŸ’

Maybe it's having the freedom to spend your time differently. Maybe it's simply feeling more prepared for what's ahead.

The answer is personal, which is exactly why your financial strategy should be personal too.

That's what Meaningful Independence means to us.

Growing your retirement accounts is important. But eventually, the conversation has to shift from accumulation to utilization. πŸ’¬

Understanding how withdrawals may affect your taxes and fit into your overall income strategy can be just as important as accumulating the money in the first place.

For decades, you know when the next paycheck is coming. πŸ“¬

Then retirement arrives, and suddenly the way money reaches your bank account looks completely different. For people without a pension, that transition can raise some very real questions about where their monthly income will come from and how Social Security fits into the picture.

A structured retirement income plan can help connect the savings you've accumulated with the life those savings now need to support.

Your RMD can change from one year to the next. πŸ‘€

That's because Required Minimum Distributions are recalculated annually. Your applicable IRS life expectancy factor changes as you age, and your account balance also plays a role in determining the amount.

It's one more reason RMD planning shouldn't be treated as a one-time task.

Retirement isn't only about making sure you don't spend too much... πŸ’Έ

Sometimes the opposite happens.

When there's no clear income plan in place, some retirees worry about every withdrawal because they don't know what they can comfortably spend. Instead of enjoying the retirement they've worked toward, they may find themselves constantly preparing for a worst-case scenario that may never happen.

✍️ A written income plan can provide a framework for making those decisions with more information and less guesswork.
