Last summer, I entered ’s 88th Regional Exhibition of Art & Craft juried by artist, linguist, and educator Gabriel Sosa.

I was truly floored when my piece, Word House, made from an old pocket dictionary, took home the prize for sculpture. What a surprise and an honor!

🏆 TAX TIP: Artists, prizes are considered income! If you are awarded a prize that is more than $600, you should be issued a 1099 MISC should be issued by the awarding organization.

Several months ago, my husband, , and I both enrolled in Studio Art Classes at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Chris is taking “Watercolor” and I’m taking “Drawing Foundations”, where I’ve been learning shading techniques, perspective, proportions of the figure, and drapery.

Did you receive a grant from the Worcester Arts Council, Mass Cultural Council, City of Worcester, Greater Worcester Community Foundation, etc., etc., etc.?

Guess what… that grant is likely taxable.

The entity that awarded you a grant should issue you a 1099 including the grant award amount, and you’ll need to claim that when you file your taxes.
