The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has issued final regulations that reduce the electronic filing threshold from 250 W-2s to 10 informational returns, beginning January 2024.

What this means for you:
If you file 10 or more informational returns (such as Forms W-2 or 1099), you must file them electronically unless the IRS grants a waiver or exemption.

If you do not have a Social Security online account, a Login.gov, or ID.me credential, you will need to create one. From our BSO Welcome page, select “Create Account” in the “Employers” box. Allow a minimum of 2 weeks for the registration process to be completed.

Social Security Administration Business Services Online Registration Process has changed!

What does this mean for you?
Additional levels of security are now required to access BSO employer services. Allow a minimum of 2 weeks for the registration process to be completed. Take action now to avoid delays!

You will not be able to use the following services without having the required credential and authentication for your account:

• Wage file upload
• W-2/W-2C online
• AccuWage online
• Social Security Number Verification Service (SSNVS)
• View wage report name/SSN errors
