The tax extension deadlines are rapidly approaching. If you have a Corp or Partnership return that was placed on extension, it needs to be filed by 9/15. Personal returns on extension are due 10/15.

Virginia's annual sales tax holiday runs August 7-9. During this period, qualifying purchases of school supplies, clothing and footwear, hurricane and emergency preparedness items, and Energy Star and WaterSense products are exempt from sales tax. All relevant tax categories will be exempt during the holiday period under the relevant thresholds.

Beginning this summer, businesses will no longer be able to link their Virginia Tax and Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) accounts. If your accounts are currently linked, they will be uncoupled.

NEW LAWS ARE IN EFFECT FOR SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS REGARDING RETIREMENT

Virginia requires private employers to register for the state's RetirePath savings program if they have five or more employees, have been in business for at least two years, and do not already offer a qualified plan.

Deadlines: Registration dates are based on your number of employees. For businesses with 10 to 24 employees, the deadline is September 30, 2026. For businesses with 5 to 9 employees (or 25+), the deadline is October 30, 2026.

RetirePath was created by Virginia state law to expand access to retirement savings and provide more Virginians with a path to economic security.
