IRS to phase out paper tax refund checks starting with individual taxpayers!

IR-2025-94, Sept. 23, 2025 — The Internal Revenue Service, working with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, today announced that paper tax refund checks for individual taxpayers will be phased out beginning on Sept. 30, 2025, as required by Executive Order 14247, to the extent permitted by law.

BEWARE!!!

LPSO Financial Crimes: BEWARE of IRS Scam Circulating; BOLO for USB Flash Drives

A Livingston Parish resident received a package via the U.S. Mail. Upon first glance, it looks as though it’s an official mailing from the US Department of the Treasury/Internal Revenue Service (IRS).▫️

Included in the package:
🔹An official-looking letter with the resident's personal identifiers and instructions on how to prevent ID Theft.
🔹USB flash drive with the IRS logo taped to it. On the flash drive is a digital copy of the letter and malware that will be downloaded when you connect it to your computer.
🔹The Malware is a remote-viewing program that will allow the scammer to access your PC - giving them access to your banking information and any other personal information stored on it.▫️

If you receive one of the packages, contact LPSO to file a report. ▫️

USPS and the IRS have been notified of the incident. It is being investigated.

Did you have Overtime in 2025? If so, bring in your Last Pay Stub?

Do have school age children? We’ll need to know where they went to school in 2025.

Did you buy a new vehicle in 2025? We’ll need your purchase paperwork and how much interest you paid on that purchase in 2025. We also need the VIN. Vehicle must be manufacturd in the U. S.

Just a few of the new questions we need answers to, so we can file your 2025 Tax Returns. We want you to get every penny you’re entitled to.

Monday is the filing deadline for your Federal Income Tax Return. If we filed an “extension” for you, that is an extension to file your return only. If you owe money to the IRS, that is DUE on Monday 4/18/22. Either you pay it electronically or send payment via the U.S.P.S. with a Postmark of 4/18/22. The Youngsville post office closes at 4:30 pm.

Your 1st Quarter Estimated taxes for 2022 are also due for the Federal and State on Monday, 4/18/22.

The filing deadline for your 2021 tax return is fast approaching. Please get your paperwork into the office this coming week or you may be looking at having to file an extension.

Extensions are an extension to file your return, not an extension to pay if you owe additional taxes to the IRS. That deadline is Monday, April 18th since the 15th is a Federal Holiday.

Louisiana has a tax deadline of May 15th. Typically we file both the Federal and the State return at the same time.
