Can Vietnam’s Renewed Soe Privatisation Push Be Different This Time?

After nearly a decade of muted activity, Vietnam is once again creating opportunities for private investors to participate in major state-owned enterprises and infrastructure assets.

Sharing with DealStreetAsia, our CEO, Trong Duc Tran, noted that the previous slowdown was not caused by a shortage of investor capital, but largely by internal corporate inertia.

From his viewpoint, the current cycle is more than another wave of divestments. It represents a potential shift from administrative capital preservation towards more active, institutional-style portfolio management. However, its success will ultimately depend on ex*****on discipline, transparency and stronger corporate governance.

Vietnam’s FDI Momentum Strengthens In The First Seven Months Of 2026

Vietnam attracted USD 38.06 billion in registered foreign investment during the first seven months of 2026, up 58% year on year. Manufacturing and processing remained the key driver, accounting for 49.1% of total registered FDI.

Actual FDI disbursement reached USD 15.2 billion, up 11.8% and marking the highest seven-month level in five years. Against an uncertain global backdrop, these results highlight Vietnam’s growing appeal as a long-term investment destination and its expanding role in regional production networks.

Trong 7 tháng đầu năm 2026, tổng vốn đầu tư nước ngoài đăng ký vào Việt Nam đạt 38,06 tỷ USD, tăng 58% so với cùng kỳ. Chế biến, chế tạo tiếp tục giữ vai trò chủ lực, chiếm 49,1% tổng vốn đăng ký.

Vốn FDI thực hiện đạt 15,2 tỷ USD, tăng 11,8% và là mức cao nhất của giai đoạn 7 tháng trong 5 năm qua. Trong bối cảnh kinh tế toàn cầu còn nhiều bất định, kết quả này cho thấy Việt Nam ngày càng khẳng định sức hút như một điểm đến đầu tư dài hạn và mắt xích quan trọng trong mạng lưới sản xuất khu vực.

How Is Decision 1743 Changing Banks’ Funding Dynamics?

Credit growth continues to outpace deposit mobilization, making funding balance one of the key challenges facing Vietnam’s banking system in 2026. Against this backdrop, SBV Decision 1743 raises the share of State Treasury deposits counted toward LDR to 50%, creating additional lending headroom for banks, particularly state-owned institutions.

However, greater LDR headroom does not necessarily mean that funding pressure has been fully resolved. In this article, we examine the impact of Decision 1743 on bank funding and interest rates while also assessing whether liquidity pressures could re-emerge as funding demand rises toward year-end.

Tín dụng tiếp tục tăng trưởng nhanh hơn huy động vốn, khiến áp lực cân đối nguồn vốn trở thành một trong những vấn đề đáng chú ý của hệ thống ngân hàng trong năm 2026.
