PSA - The IRS will never, ever, ever email you. They will never, ever, ever call you either.

They will ALWAYS mail you. No exceptions.

There is a growing, widespread outage of internet servics and websites at the moment. The current issue appears to be with Cloudflare. Sources are stating this is similar to the AWS outage last month, although no details have emerged. Cloudflare has scheduled 6 of their server locations for a reboot. More to come as this unfolds.

As always, when events like this happen, it increases the risk index in general. Minimize overall usage, especially with client data, until this is resolved.

Please reach out if you have any questions.

I have always said - A good Accountant pays for themselves, a bad one will cost you dearly.

Did you know...??
Non-business bad debt is tax deductible!
Now...it must be LEGITIMATE, FORMALIZED, AND COMPLETELY WORTHLESS.

For example, if you sued a home contractor and the judgement is deemed worthless (they have no assets to seize, they file bankruptcy, etc), you may never get your money from them BUT you can recover a decent chunk pecentage by deducting as non-business bad debt.

Or...if you lent someone money, and have a written agreement, and they file bankruptcy, etc.

There are specific parameters/tiers for deducting but it's worth the steps (first as short-term capital gain, then as long-term capital gain, and finally against ordinary income - max of $3k/year, with carry-forward until fully deducted).

*Of course, business bad debt is already deductible within the business return. This post is for non-business only.
