Don't judge a bottle by its label... or the mud on it.

I recently came across a story that really made me think.

After the devastating floods in the Western Cape, millions of bottles from Van Loveren Family Vineyards were left covered in mud and stained by the floodwaters. At first glance, they looked damaged and unsellable.

But here's the remarkable part...

The wine inside was completely untouched.

Instead of throwing the bottles away, Food Lover's Market and Van Loveren launched "Flood Wines: Bottles of Hope"—giving these imperfect bottles a second chance while helping support recovery efforts.

It made me think about how often we do the same with people.

We judge based on what we can see:

Someone's appearance.
Their past.
A mistake they've made.
The challenges they've faced.
The scars life has left behind.

Yet we rarely stop to consider what's on the inside.

Some of the strongest, kindest and most capable people are carrying the marks of battles they've fought—battles that never changed their character, only their appearance.

The next time you're quick to form an opinion, remember those muddy wine bottles.

Sometimes what's been through the storm is still every bit as valuable.

Perhaps even more so.
